    Nowadays, unhealthy eating habits bring more and more health problems to human beings, such as obesity, atherosclerosis, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, chronic gastrointestinal inflammation and so on. Sub-healthy population is expanding. For this, active prevention is very necessary: for example, increasing the amount of exercise and adhering to exercise; reducing diet energy density and keeping away from food with too high calories; reducing fat intake in the diet; increasing the intake of dietary fiber, etc.

    Professor W. Windisch, director of the Institute of Animal Nutrition at Munich Polytechnic University in Germany, pointed out in a health report entitled "Research on pine pollen deeply rooted in Sino-German cooperation" (hereinafter referred to as "the study report") that that dietary fiber intake is insufficient is a very common nutritional problem. When food becomes more and more refined, pace of life fastens up and fiber supplement gets insufficient, people should consider additional nutritional supplement.

    The study report presents that pine pollen, also known as "pine yellow," is the sperm (male gametophyte) of Pinus massoniana, Pinus tabulaeformis, Pinus yunnanensis and Pinus yunnanensis, and the plant pollen variety used in traditional Chinese food and medicine. Natural pine pollen is rich in trace elements and dietary fiber, which accounts for about 56.8% of the total content. As for the dietary fiber, 12.8% is hemicellulose, 14.4% is cellulose and 29.6% is lignin.

    According to the report, from the perspective of scientific demonstration, the health benefits of pine pollen remain mainly in the following aspects :

    Pine pollen contains insoluble dietary fiber, rich in a variety of bio-active substances, with better nutritional and physiological effects than dietary fiber;

    Pine pollen has the ability to reduce the potential pathogens in the intestinal tract, or to put it in a vivid way, pine pollen can reduce the number of "terrorists" in the intestine;

    Pine pollen can enhance the digestive ability of the intestine, in other words, it opens the door to the absorption of nutrients for the intestine;

    Pine pollen reduces the metabolites of unwanted microorganisms, such as ammonia in the colon. That is, pine pollen can remove dirty things dropped off by intestinal "terrorists" so as to   generate high quality feces;

    Pine pollen can reduce the body's immune defense stress level, to put it vividly, it protects the body's "police", because in order to protect the body's safety, the immune system is always ready to "shoot";

    Pine pollen can shift some microbial flora from the tissue into the intestinal cavity, and has a beneficial effect on the metabolism of lipid, cholesterol and bile acid;
Pine pollen has the potential to merge with many toxic substances;

    Pine pollen has unique anti-oxidation, anti-fatigue, immune improvement abilities.

    In addition, natural pine pollen is rich in a variety of bio-active ingredients, such as nucleic acid, carotenoid, catalase, choline, triterpene enoic acid, plant polyphenols and vitamin C. In addition to nutrients, food also contains other beneficial substances, which are not necessary for the maintenance of body growth and development, but play an important role in maintaining human health, regulating physiological functions and preventing diseases.

    Professor W. Windisch said the 20th century could be called the era of antibiotics, because people are superstitious about drugs, making antibiotic abuse a serious health problem.    As antibiotics can kill many bacteria, the abuse of antibiotics will cause many pathogens to develop drug resistance, and will disrupt the microbial community in the body, and then reduce the body's resistance that results in very serious consequences. If intestinal microbial flora propagates normally, the body will not easily get sick, and normal intestinal flora effectively prevents constipation.

    "After entering the 21 st century, experts believe that we have entered a micro-ecological era. Sticking to pine pollen can prevent and regulate intestinal flora disorders and maintain health,  "said Professor W. Windisch.

    The study report points out that European nutritionists see functional food as a new direction: first, it is food, not medicine, and affordable for the general public. Taking functional foods can reduce the risk of illness and prevent and reduce some possible chronic non-communicable diseases. In fact, this is where the food therapy concept of traditional Chinese medicine meets European functional food theory.
